R52 COMPACT range of irrigation booms for agriculture and horticulture

LESS THAN 3M TRANSPORTATION WIDTH WITOUT REMOVING BOOM SECTIONS

Ranging in structural width from 35 to 52 metres, Briggs four-wheel chassis COMPACT booms are efficient, tough, reliable and surprisingly versatile. Over 2000 4 wheel-chassis booms are in operation throughout the world.

Irrigated widths are from 35 to 72m depending on the choice of nozzle or sprinkler mounted on each end of the boom.

All are easy to operate, can be folded by one person in just a few minutes for transport and can be operated with almost any make and size of hosereel.

Efficient

  • Uniform water application gives far more even crop growth compared to raingun systems.
  • Using a Briggs boom can reduce water consumption by 20% or more compared with rainguns.
  • High flow rates allow faster retraction, enabling large areas to be covered in less time.
  • Controlled droplet size reduces soil damage. Large droplets can be selected to reduce drift while fine droplets can be used to minimise damage to very delicate crops.
  • Less impact from small droplets also reduces soil capping and soil erosion.
  • Low pressure operation reduces pumping costs (less energy absorbed) and puts less strain on the pipeline.

Features

  • The boom can be towed and operated from both ends of the chassis saving time and greatly simplifying positioning procedure. Four wheel steering means the boom follows the tractor when being pulled into the row to keep crop damage to a minimum.
  • The option of ‘offset water feed’ keeps the hosereel pipe in the wheeling, alleviating traction problems during ‘pull out’ and eliminating damage to the crop. With this option the boom is pulled out with the central drawbar.
  • Semi-automatic locking catches mean that even the largest booms are genuinely a one person operation with no lifting or carrying.
  • There is a choice of Nelson pressure regulated S3030 Sprayjets or R3030 Rotators configured to suit flow rates and droplet size requirements of the soil and crop. Komet KPT or Senninger Dynamic Drive type sprinklers are also available.
  • Pressure regulators are used on all Nelson S3030 or R3030 nozzle assemblies ensuring a perfectly matched flow rate across all nozzles.
  • Ball valve control on all sprinkler/spray-jet outlets enables sections to be shut off to suit irrigation requirements and allows individual nozzles to be unblocked if necessary
  • Optional combination of sprinklers and spray jets on the ends of the boom to suit differing irrigated width requirements.
  • A choice of blanking plates, raingun mounting kits and end sprinklers give the booms incredibly good versatility.
  • All models are equipped with a turntable allowing the boom to be set at an angle or rotated around any obstacle during irrigation.
  • Simple connection to the hosereel with a robust taper lock latch assembly.
  • Can be used with almost any make and size of hosereel.
  • Self-levelling system allows the boom to remain level with the ground. This can be locked when the boom is used on side slopes.
  • Optional stainless steel pipework for corrosive liquids.
  • Optional 'hydraulic raising tower' allows the boom to work at 3.1m height (from the ground to the nozzles). This is a very strong and simple to use system with a choice of hydraulic controls.

Tough & Reliable

  • In the design process strength, longevity and user friendliness were the top 3 items on the brief. These booms are designed to last as long as the hosereel they are working with.
  • Proven lifespan of more than 20 years. Many booms from the early 1990's are still working well with well with over 20000 hours of use.
  • All our booms are made from steel and are fully galvanised which ensures a long life span.
  • All components are manufactured using modern technology and spares are readily available for any boom we have ever made.
  • Models currently available include the R52C/35, R52C/40, R52C/46 and R52C/52 (second number designates structural length in metres).
  • Options developed in conjunction with farmers around the world make the booms highly versatile.

Blanking plate with or without end sprinkler

Allows the boom width to be reduced to avoid awkward obstacles.

K1 End sprinkler

The option of a low trajectory impact sprinkler on each end of the boom gives up to 35% increase in lane spacing. Can not be used on the R52C/52 boom

Nelson R55VT end part circle rotator

Nelson R55VT part circle rotator can increase the lane spacing by 10-12 metres on each end of the boom. Droplet size is generally heavier than the S3030 or R3030 nozzles.

Luxor turbine drive end sprinkler

SIME Luxor turbine drive end sprinkler. Requires a minimum of 3 bar on the sprinkler but has a smoother drive system than the K1 end sprinkler. (Can not be used on the R52C/52)

Slurry splash plate nozzles

Available for liquids with a higher dry matter content.

The offset water feed

Keeps the hosereel pipe in the wheeling, making setting up easier and reducing damage to the crop.

Clamp on stopfin

For stopping the hosereel at the end of the run. Sizes available from 75mm to 125mm.

Filter cone and housing

Available in 3, 3.5 or 4" sizes with Bauer couplings. Filter should be used between the flexible hosereel supply pipe and the inlet fitting on the hosereel.

Large wheel

Option (11.5/80-15.3) mainly used for all year round irrigation for dirty water or slurry irrigation

Turf wheels

Allow the boom to be used on large scale turf farms and amenity applications without damage to the turf.

Manual raingun mounting kit

Used in two different ways:
1. To irrigate an area that cannot be reached with the sprayjets or rotators and then manually divert the water back to the boom for the remainder of the irrigation run.
2. To allow the operator to use a raingun for the whole run or part of a run – if there is an obstacle in the way or a narrow part of the field to irrigate.

Hydraulic raising tower

Essential for tall crops such as maize.
Hydraulic lift systems are available in two versions.
This system allows the operator to open the boom at a low, manageable height and then hydraulically lift the boom. The ‘high lift’ system has three lift heights – 1.9m, 2.4m and 3.1m allowing enough tolerance between the crop and the boom as the crop height increases. It also reduces the prospect of damage to the boom from contact with the crop.
. This is essential for tall crops such as maize.

Electro hydraulic power pack

A self-contained 12 volt electro hydraulic power pack mounted on the boom chassis, can be used to operate the hydraulic boom lift systems or hydraulic turntable. It speeds up deployment of the boom by removing the need to connect hydraulic hoses to the tractor.

Hydraulic turntable

The option of a ‘hydraulic turntable’ (to be used in conjunction with the hydraulic raising tower) enables the operator to rotate the boom when it is in the raised or lowered position.
